Retired Spokane anesthesiologist’s body found dismembered, burned in backyard

On April 10th, 2019 Dr. Rex Porter’s body was found in pieces and burnt. One afternoon in the neighborhood he was living, a neighbor noticed his garage door open as well as a car door that had been open for about two days, so she called the 911 to call someone to check up on the retired doctor. The police saw broken glass through the windows and was calling Dr. Porter but without a response they entered the household and looked around. As they kept searching they went to the basement and found more broken glass, blood, and other items. They opened the door and saw the Doctor’s son standing there, people knew Rex as the person who took care of his autistic, nonverbal son Derek. In the restroom officers found feces in the toilet and dead animal remains in the sink. A neighbor commented that if Derek was home then Rex should be too. Which lead the to further investigation the police found Dr. Porters remains burned on his 11 acre lot, they found a partially burned leg, a head with glasses and a torso. Derek is in a hospital and charges are pending for the death of Dr. Porter.

This relates really well with chapter 6 because we are talking a lot about crime and demographics. This crime would be considered a violent crime because it is defined as a crime in which violence us either the objective or the means to an end including murder, rape, aggravated assault and robbery. In this case, the crime would also be considered a property crime by definition it is a larceny which is destruction of personal property ei: the windows. Crimes are more likely to be committed in poor areas rather than wealthier areas, that was not the case here considering it was his son the most likely committed a hate crime which is a crime targeted towards a person. The son obviously targeted his father for some reason out of hate. Derek does match the age statistic were younger people often commit more crimes. I think this is because they are more mobile than older people and more careless for others and their property. Race is not determined but, it is a controversial topic either way. Also, it is more likely for males to commit crime rather than females. I believe this is because males are often more reckless and not as emotional.
